Mohaynow's "Dallas Women" adds dimension to suburban country grunge. This arrangement serves as an admonishment to all folks that ain't from Dallas; y’all'd better be prepared to listen real fast if’n yr headin' to the Big D.

Neal McAlister had a panic attack on a second date back in March of ‘22, and went home the next day to disclose this episode to his guitar. "You start to try and listen, / And your brain just explodes. / They're speaking really softly, / And you're bleedin' out your lobes."

Andrés Acre's first appearance on drums for Mohaynow brings undulating, determined energy to the arrangement. Acre and McAlister perform as a duo.

Zach Dominguez, Mohaynow's Art Director, expertly depicted Reunion Tower as we all prefer to see it—in the rear-view mirror. Jokes aside, Dominguez sews in detailed easter eggs in all of Mohaynow's album art. The typography on these releases is worthy of study in its own right.

Pete Wierenga's recording and mixing engineering magic is central to this production's success. He and McAlister bounce ideas back and forth throughout the production process.

"Peter is a wizard of the highest order," McAlister said.

Todd Pipes mastered all of Mohaynow's studio singles this year.

"We're very grateful to Mr. Pipes for lending his expertise to the project. It's always exciting to get a master back from him—he places depth into these recordings, and brings them to life," McAlister said.

Dallas Women is the first tease of the second EP Mohaynow has slated for 2024 entitled The Illness. Look out for their next single Biscuits & Gravy this winter. McAlister also hinted that there's a video in the works for "Double Clown".

Mohaynow's releases this year include Double Clown(This Universe Is) You + MeSick, and Demos, and music video releases for "Lo-Fi Junkie," "Somethin' New," and "I Think We Can Make It”. They've started a lo-fi video series called Alive where you can hear the nitty-gritty versions of your favorite singles. We recommend that you keep an eye on this local powerhouse at your earliest convenience.

Double Clown is about a bodhisattva who returns to their community from having experienced nirvana. The clown costume in the song is a metaphor for the identity this person resumed after truly experiencing non-duality. It's really just a rag-time or folk ballad dressed up in grunge clothing.

“‘Double Clown’ is back.” – Fort Worth Weekly

Mohaynow's suburban country grunge single Double Clown will obliterate your speakers. The lyrics process the dualities of existence and perception. This studio arrangement of the well-loved demo (2020) contains fuzzed out guitar with a subdued rag-time piano. The best two minutes you will spend this year marks a swift left turn in Mohaynow’s sound—we absolutely loved the bedroom pop, but this melting crunchy psychedelia has us scouring our music libraries for greasy jalapeño nachos. And don’t you worry, Mohaynow has the broiler on, and they’re bringing the fucking nachos. This cow-punchy, punk ode depicts a bodhisattva who enjoys rodeos, vintage stores, garage sales, and circuses that just can’t seem to stay out of the drizzling rain.
